Hi, I’m Steve Turner, and I’d like to be Your Insurance Agent and Broker serving residents of Sydney FL.

For many years, I’ve been helping neighbors (like you), in Sydney FL, find insurance plans that meet your individual, family, and business needs that are Affordable (Cheap). Which types of insurance can I assist you with?

  • Accident Insurance
  • Dental Insurance
  • Disability Insurance
  • Group Health Insurance
  • Health Insurance
  • Life Insurance
  • Medicare Insurance
  • Medicare Advantage Insurance
  • Medicare Supplement Insurance
  • Prescription Drug Insurance

Why choose Steve Turner Insurance Specialist?

Because I’m an “Insurance Specialist“. An “insurance specialist” is a broad term encompassing insurance agents and insurance brokers, but the key difference lies in who the agent represents versus who the broker represents.

An “insurance agent” works directly for an insurance company, selling their specific policies to clients.

An “insurance broker” acts as an independent intermediary, comparing policies from multiple companies to find the best fit for their client’s needs, essentially representing the client rather than the insurance company.

I am both a licensed Insurance Agent and a licensed Insurance Broker.

My number one goal in life is to help people and ensure, without a shadow of a doubt, that you and your family are secure and protected. I will always be by your side, helping you mitigate risk by providing the industry’s best and most affordable insurance solutions.

I will find insurance plans for the entire family to help cover whatever life throws at you. I can help you save on severe medical emergencies, find a health insurance plan with low-to-no-cost doctor visits and affordable prescription medication, and protect your family in the event of an unexpected accident or illness.

Best of all – it doesn’t cost you anything extra to use an experienced Insurance Agent and Broker like me to help you find the Insurance Plans that fit your individual, family, or business needs.

The companies that sell the insurance plans “you choose” pay me – you don’t pay me. Calling any big insurance company directly won’t result in your getting a lower price, as they will forward your call to the next available insurance agent on their list. You won’t have had any opportunity to learn about the insurance agent you’re speaking with in advance to understand their qualifications or experience level and make an informed choice about who you want to work with.

Sydney FL

Of course. Sydney is one of those small, historic Hillsborough County communities that tells a classic “Old Florida” story of railroads and agriculture, and is now at the very center of a modern story of explosive suburban growth. From my location here in Citrus Park, I see Sydney as a perfect example of a quiet, rural crossroads that is rapidly being transformed by the eastward expansion of the Tampa suburbs.

Zip Codes: 33587

Latitude, Longitude: 27.9634° N, 82.2073° W

A Railroad Crossing with a Southern Name 🛤️

The story of Sydney is entirely a creation of the railroad. It came into being in the 1880s when the Florida Central and Peninsular Railroad (which later became part of the Seaboard Air Line) laid its tracks east from Tampa toward Plant City. A stop was needed in this rural area to load produce and serve local farmers, and a small community sprouted up around the new depot.

The new settlement was named by the railroad’s own civil engineer, S.S.N. Sydney, who, in a common practice of the time, named the new stop after himself. For most of its history, Sydney was a classic railroad “whistle-stop.” Its economy was based on the surrounding citrus groves and winter vegetable farms. Life revolved around the train depot, a general store, a post office, and the packing houses that prepared local produce for its journey to northern markets.

A Quiet Remnant of Old Florida 🌳

For decades, Sydney remained a small, quiet, and rural community. Today, its historic core is still visible at the intersection of Sydney Road and State Road 60. However, its modern identity is defined by the immense development pressure from its much larger neighbors, Brandon and Valrico.

It is crucial to understand that Sydney is not an incorporated city or even a Census-Designated Place (CDP). It is a recognized, unincorporated community governed directly by Hillsborough County.

The main story of 21st-century Sydney is its rapid transformation from a rural outpost to a new frontier of suburbia. The pastures and groves that once surrounded the old crossroads are rapidly being replaced by large, master-planned housing developments. This has created a fascinating juxtaposition where new, manicured subdivisions now sit just down the road from century-old farmhouses, embodying the central tension between Florida’s past and its future.

Sydney by the Numbers 📊

Because Sydney is not an officially designated census area, there are no precise demographic statistics for the community itself. Its character must be described qualitatively.

  • Official Designation: Unincorporated Community
  • County: Hillsborough
  • Established: Railroad stop established in the 1880s.
  • Named For: Railroad engineer S.S.N. Sydney.
  • Population: The historic core of Sydney is very small, likely only a few hundred residents. However, the new developments that now fall within the “Sydney area” are home to thousands of new residents, dramatically changing the area’s population density.
  • Demographic Character: Historically a rural community, the area is rapidly becoming a diverse, middle-class suburban landscape, mirroring the demographics of its larger neighbor, Valrico.

Landmarks and Nearby Hubs 🍓

Life for the residents of Sydney is defined by the excellent recreational, retail, and cultural amenities of the surrounding eastern Hillsborough County area.

  • Sydney Dover Trails: A beautiful 7-mile multi-use trail system managed by Hillsborough County. This park, which directly uses the Sydney name, preserves a piece of the area’s natural pine flatwoods and is very popular with hikers, off-road cyclists, and equestrians.
  • Dinosaur World: A classic Florida roadside attraction located just a few miles east of Sydney in Plant City. This outdoor park, with its hundreds of life-sized dinosaur replicas, is a major family-friendly destination for the entire region.
  • Keel & Curley Winery / Keel Farms: This major agri-tourism destination in nearby Plant City is a favorite for people from Sydney and the surrounding area. It features a winery, brewery, cidery, and restaurant, celebrating the agricultural heritage of the region.
  • Westfield Brandon: The massive indoor shopping mall in Brandon serves as the primary retail, dining, and entertainment hub for the entire eastern part of the county, including the growing population of Sydney.
  • Florida Strawberry Festival: Held annually in neighboring Plant City, this massive 11-day event is a cultural cornerstone for all of eastern Hillsborough County. It celebrates the agricultural industry that historically sustained the community of Sydney and remains a beloved tradition for residents.
