Balm FL – Health Medicare Long-Term Care Dental Insurance
Hi, I’m Steve Turner, and I’d like to be Your Insurance Agent and Broker.
For many years, I’ve been helping neighbors (like you), in title, find insurance plans that meet your individual, family, and business needs that are Affordable (Cheap). Which types of insurance can I assist you with?
Why choose Steve Turner Insurance Specialist?
Because I’m an “Insurance Specialist“. An “insurance specialist” is a broad term encompassing insurance agents and insurance brokers, but the key difference lies in who the agent represents versus who the broker represents.
An “insurance agent” works directly for an insurance company, selling their specific policies to clients.
An “insurance broker” acts as an independent intermediary, comparing policies from multiple companies to find the best fit for their client’s needs, essentially representing the client rather than the insurance company.
I am both a licensed Insurance Agent and a licensed Insurance Broker.
My number one goal in life is to help people and ensure, without a shadow of a doubt, that you and your family are secure and protected. I will always be by your side, helping you mitigate risk by providing the industry’s best and most affordable insurance solutions.
I will find insurance plans for the entire family to help cover whatever life throws at you. I can help you save on severe medical emergencies, find a health insurance plan with low-to-no-cost doctor visits and affordable prescription medication, and protect your family in the event of an unexpected accident or illness.
Best of all – it doesn’t cost you anything extra to use an experienced Insurance Agent and Broker like me to help you find the Insurance Plans that fit your individual, family, or business needs.
The companies that sell the insurance plans “you choose” pay me – you don’t pay me. Calling any big insurance company directly won’t result in your getting a lower price, as they will forward your call to the next available insurance agent on their list. You won’t have had any opportunity to learn about the insurance agent you’re speaking with in advance to understand their qualifications or experience level and make an informed choice about who you want to work with.
Scroll down to the Contact Me section below and get in touch with me by phone, email, or schedule a “No Obligation” chat through my calendar. I look forward to speaking with you!

The Soothing Story of Balm 🌿
Balm’s origin story is a perfect piece of Florida lore. Unlike places named for developers or distant dukes, Balm gets its name from nature. The community began to take shape in the late 1890s around a stop on the Seaboard Air Line Railway. When it came time to name their new post office in 1902, the early settlers chose “Balm” in honor of a fragrant native plant, likely the Balm of Gilead scrub, that grew profusely in the area and filled the air with a pleasant, soothing scent.
For decades, Balm was a small, tight-knit railroad town. Its economy was driven by the vast pine forests, first for turpentine and lumber, and later by farming and cattle ranching as the land was cleared. It was a classic rural Florida settlement: a general store, a one-room schoolhouse, a church, and a collection of modest homes surrounded by miles of pastures and fields. It represents the quiet, hardworking agricultural backbone upon which so much of modern Hillsborough County was built.
A Rural Enclave Under Pressure 🚜
Today, Balm remains staunchly rural, a world away from the planned communities and commercial corridors of northern Hillsborough County. The landscape is defined by two-lane country roads, large-acreage homesteads, commercial nurseries, tropical fish farms, and cattle pastures. It’s a place where people know their neighbors and value their space and privacy.
The most significant institution in the area is the University of Florida’s IFAS Gulf Coast Research and Education Center, a massive agricultural science facility. Its presence reinforces Balm’s identity as the agricultural heart of the county, where cutting-edge research on vegetables, fruits, and ornamental plants takes place.
However, the defining story of Balm in the 21st century is the immense pressure of suburban sprawl. As the populations of nearby Riverview, Gibsonton, and Wimauma have exploded, developers have turned their sights south. This has created a constant tension between longtime residents fighting to preserve the community’s rural character and the relentless demand for new housing. Balm is on the front line of one of the most critical land-use debates in Florida.
